Carter returns to New England With The Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics have signed guard Devin Carter to an Exhibit 10 contract (known as a training camp deal), giving him an opportunity to compete for a roster or two-way contract spot at the Celtics’ training camp. Carter will be returning home, as he spent most of his college career playing for the Providence Friars.

During his final season with the Friars, he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game and was named Big East Player of the Year while leading the Friars to a semifinal appearance in the Big East tournament. His strong all-around play and reputation as a dual threat helped make him the No. 13 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Carter spent his first two NBA seasons with the Sacramento Kings, where he showed potential as a defensive-minded guard and playmaker. However, injuries and inconsistent shooting limited his impact. With Boston, Carter has a chance to develop his game while competing alongside an experienced roster.

His defense, athleticism and ability to contribute in multiple areas could give the Celtics another useful option in the backcourt. Hopefully Joe Mazulla and The Celtics can achieve similar results with Carter as they did with Neemias Queta.

For Carter, joining the Celtics represents a chance to restart his career and develop into a more consistent NBA player. At 24 years old, he is still young and has a lot of room to grow, and in Boston, he can prove that he is able to become a valuable contributor to a championship-contending team.

I have been a fan of Devin Carter since his Providence days, and he is a fun player to watch. His speed and explosiveness, as well as his defensive abilities, will make him a fun prospect to follow in the 2026-2027 season.
