Sam Leavitt’s Strict Routine
LSU’s new starting quarterback, Sam Leavitt, follows an incredibly strict wellness routine to prepare mentally and physically for what he hopes is a very long season with the Tigers.
Leavitt spoke to reporters Tuesday, September 1, about how he prepares for individual games and how he is able to maintain that readiness throughout the season. Sam walked us through his daily schedule, and it starts with, “Putting my phone down at 8 p.m., I put on my blue light glasses, take my supplements, do my stretches, and get ready for bed.” He also went into how his night routine directly impacts his next day. What he puts into his body and how he treats it will impact how he feels mentally and physically the next day. One of the biggest takeaways from his press conference on Tuesday, though, was how he limits some of his communication with people. He did make it clear that this doesn’t necessarily mean cutting people out of his life. However, it does mean limiting the time he spends texting and talking on the phone. By limiting that “extra” communication, he believes it leaves his mind free and uncluttered for the next day.
In prior interviews and online, Leavitt gave us a glimpse into what he puts into his body to stay ready throughout the season. Sam works closely with a personal chef to ensure that he consumes all organic foods. He also avoids eating anything out of plastic containers and eats and drinks only from glass products. He has shared these things on social media and in past interviews as well. Everything up until this point, we’ve seen in other players before, but Sam takes it to another level by drinking concentrated seawater for magnesium. I’ve only heard of distance runners consuming seawater, but maybe that’s why we saw Sam rush for over 100 yards with two touchdowns.
The Tigers’ new quarterback was already in Heisman talks before he played a snap, but Saturday definitely strengthened that argument. LSU has had some bad publicity ever since Lane Kiffin stepped onto the scene, but for me, it’s hard to hate Sam Leavitt.
